Haymingway Alfalfa Cultivation

Haymingway contracts with hay farmers and also rents irrigable land in USA for planting. The fields are managed by professional team and we produce alfalfa up to 60,000 tons per year. Among them, the land in Washington State is guided by professors at Washington State University Extension. And the land in California is planted by local growers with hay purchase contracting upfront.

The optimal trade off for higher forage quality and dry matter yield of alfalfa is to harvest the first cutting at the late-bud to first-flower stage and to make subsequent cuttings at 32-to-35 day intervals until late September or early-October, often referred to as a "4 summer-cut system."

Wheel-line irrigation system. Soil moisture is important for alfalfa to regrow after a cutting.

Field can usually be irrigated quicker with the center pivot irrigation after a cutting.

Bales can reduce fall damage and retain moisture. Square bales are easier to handle for long distance trucking compared to round bales. Bale sizes include 3-tie bales, big bales (3x4x8 ft) and mega bales (4x4x8 ft), suiting the need of different customers.
